Jim Hirst is a 16 year veteran lobbyist at the Minnesota
Capitol. Jim began his political resume in the late 1980's
as a staff member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and
later clerked inside the Senate chamber during floor sessions.
Jim has a demonstrable skill in legislative tactics to
advance or stall pending legislation. Jim's past clients
have included tobacco, alcohol and gaming interests. He
also has extensive regional experience managing lobbyists
in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes states.
Jim travels the state when the legislature is not in
session to visit with legislators and clients, and to
get the "real pulse" of what is happening
outside of the metropolitan area. His contacts at the
capitol run the spectrum from leadership to the capitol
barber and everyone in between! As such, he has a very
successful track record for his clients.
Jim currently focuses on issues concerning the Transportation
Committee, Commerce Committee, Tax Committee, and Environment
Committee. In addition, he is known to frequent (and
occasionally upset bureaucrats at) the Departments of
Public Safety, Commerce, Natural Resources, Transportation,
and Revenue. Jim is also very adept at challenging proposed
state agency rules and prevailing.
